Instagram private messages are getting a makeover with new features that should delight its users. Here’s a look!

In a blog post published this Wednesday, February 19, Instagram announced a host of new features aimed at making its instant messaging service even more competitive.

Private Message Scheduling is Available on Instagram

You’ll soon be able to be the first to send your best friend a birthday message on Instagram. The social network now allows you to schedule private messages on the platform.

This first new feature is no small feat and has been eagerly awaited by many of the platform’s fans for a long time. The message you schedule will be sent automatically at the time you choose, and messages can be scheduled up to 29 days in advance. Enough to keep you coming!

Sending music integrated into DMs

Another major new feature in DMs: music sharing. You can now share your favorite music with your loved ones in just a few clicks, without using a third-party app. The only downside is that shared clips are limited to 30 seconds to avoid competing with streaming platforms.

To share music on an Instagram chat, the process is very simple:

  • Go to the discussion of your choice,
  • Click on the Stickers tab, located at the bottom right of your screen,
  • Select Music, you can now type the music of your choice in the search bar or browse through the suggestions in the app.

Translation of messages received in DM

The latest major new feature is the translation of messages received in your DMs. To transcribe a message into your language, simply tap and hold it and select the Translate option. The translated message will appear just below the original message. Currently, Instagram offers the ability to translate chats into 99 different languages.

Other new features: pinned messages, QR code sharing, etc.

Minor improvements have also been made to the platform. You now have the ability to pin important images or messages throughout the chat, so everyone can easily access essential information.

You can also invite friends to your chat groups by sharing a personalized QR code that automatically redirects them to the group. To create a QR code invitation:

  • Open the chat group and tap on its name,
  • Then tap on the invitation link, then on the QR code,
  • Finally, click on Share QR code.

You can share it via private message or save it to your camera roll. To invite people to your group chat, you must be a group administrator.
