WhatsApp: 5 new features not to be missed on the app

Meta is not slowing down in 2025 and is enriching its flagship instant messaging application, WhatsApp, with new features, for both iOS and Android.

Meta is constantly making improvements and innovations to its instant messaging app, WhatsApp. In early 2025, the app joined Meta’s Accounts Center, while some small, creative additions appeared. But other new features have been rolled out in recent days, and others, currently being tested, should soon be integrated into WhatsApp.

1. Transcription of voicemails

Are you completely unbearable for those 3-minute voice messages? Good news, WhatsApp has an option that lets you transcribe them so you can read them. To use this feature, here’s how:

  • Go to  WhatsApp Settings, by tapping the three-dot menu,
  • Then select the Discussions tab, or type the word “voice” in the search menu,
  • In the Discussions tab, choose the Transcribe voicemails option,
  • You will then be able to choose the language in which you want the voice messages to be displayed in writing.

2. Managing multiple accounts on iPhone

WhatsApp will introduce a highly anticipated feature for iPhone owners: the ability to use multiple accounts on a single device. This update, already available on Android since 2023, will allow users to manage different accounts without the need for multiple devices or parallel apps. Accounts will keep their notifications, chats, backups, and settings separate. This feature is currently in beta and is expected to roll out to all iPhone users soon.

3. An “Event” feature for groups

WhatsApp recently began rolling out a new feature called  Events on iOS and Android. It allows users to create and share events directly in group chats. Each group member and participant will be able to respond, view event details, and receive automatic reminders, WABetaInfo reports. The feature is currently being rolled out more widely. Additionally, WhatsApp is testing the ability to add images to poll options in channels to make them more engaging and intuitive. This feature is expected to be rolled out to as many people as possible soon.

4. Will music be added to statuses soon?

Also in beta, a feature for adding and sharing music via WhatsApp statuses is being tested. Thanks to the integration of Meta’s music library, the same one used on Instagram, this option should allow you to select songs directly from the status edit. Users will be able to choose a 15-second excerpt for photo statuses or manually adjust the duration for videos. Contacts will see the song title and artist name displayed on the status, with the option to discover the artist’s Instagram profile directly from WhatsApp.

5. The unique display on linked devices in testing on iOS

WhatsApp is testing, again according to WABetaInfo, the ability to open media in “View Once” mode on linked devices for iOS. Until now, this feature of opening a single media was limited to your primary device, making the multi-device experience less convenient. This update should allow iPhone users to access these single media – photos, videos, voice – on their secondary devices, including computers. This feature, already present on Android, is being tested by some beta testers and will be rolled out gradually.
