It will soon be possible to organize your Instagram profile grid however you like, abandoning chronological order.
Instagram will allow you to reorganize your grid
Instagram is expected to soon introduce a change that the platform’s creators have been waiting for for years. In a post on Threads, the social network’s CEO, Adam Mosseri, announced that it would soon be possible to change the order of images in its grid. Since its inception, Instagram has displayed posts in chronological order only, in rows of three. This has led users to adopt certain posting habits in order to maintain a harmonious feed.

These strategies will soon no longer be necessary with the new grid functionality, the first elements of which were spotted in the code by leaker Alessandro Paluzzi. On Threads, the application researcher presented the path that will allow you to reorganize your feed. Simply open the Edit profile section, which is located under your description, then press Edit grid.
Instagram tries to revitalize feeds
Feed posts aren’t as compelling as they used to be. There are underlying trends that explain this phenomenon, such as the success of vertical videos introduced by TikTok or the emergence of dark social. In July 2023, Adam Mosseri, a guest on the 20VC with Harry Stebbings podcast, himself acknowledged: “You don’t share a lot of personal moments in the feed anymore like you did five or ten years ago. You share them more in stories or private messages.”
As 2025 begins, the social network appears to have set itself the goal of strengthening the appeal of traditional posts. On January 20, the square format was definitively abandoned in favor of vertical photos, deemed more attractive by Instagram. In addition, Featured Stories will soon be integrated into the grid, alongside traditional posts. Finally, for users who would like to maintain a form of discretion in their posts, it will soon be possible to bypass the feed and post their photo directly in their grid.
For Instagram, this strategy makes sense. While Reels remain the format that generates the most views and engagement, feed posts seem to be regaining ground. According to Metricool, in 2024, the number of interactions on posts increased by more than 20% compared to 2023, while the number of interactions on Reels saw a decrease of 17.8%.
