Google is now making the ‘Search Live’ feature available in AI Mode to some users. This allows users to have real-time conversations with Google. Search Live is based on Project Astra, as is Gemini Live.
Google first introduced Search Live at I/O 2025. The feature is currently being rolled out to the Google app on Android and iOS. The feature is available to users with a Search Labs account.
User experience and features
Search Live’s user interface is presented in full-screen mode with a light or dark background, adorned with the new Google logo in the top left corner. Users can mute the conversation or request a transcript. Currently, the transcript button only leads to text chat in AI mode. A three-dot menu allows you to adjust voice settings, with four different voices available: Cosmo, Neso, Terra, and Cassini.

After asking a question, Search Live displays the websites used to answer the question in a scrollable carousel. You can also ask follow-up questions at any time. It’s also possible to continue a conversation in the background, even if you leave the Google app. On iOS devices, this is supported by the Live Activities feature.
Search Live’s camera feature, which is supposed to enable video streaming, is not yet available. This is similar to Gemini Live, which also initially offered only the voice function.
Access and activation
People with access to Search Live will see a waveform icon below the search bar in the Google app. The icon is identical to the logo in Gemini Live. It replaces the previous Google Lens shortcut. Another way to launch Search Live is a new button to the right of the text input field in conversations in AI Mode.
