Often drowned out by content recommended by the algorithm, your friends’ posts will now be displayed in a dedicated feed, initially rolled out in the United States and Canada.

Facebook is reconnecting with its DNA. In a blog post published this Thursday, March 27, 2025, the platform announced the introduction of a “Friends” tab, entirely dedicated to interactions between friends and family. This is a way for the iconic social network, often announced as being in decline but still the leader in terms of user numbers, to reconnect with the concept that made it successful, as Mark Zuckerberg hopes.

“Friends,” a news feed that is no longer polluted by the algorithm

With this “Friends” tab, Facebook finally offers an alternative to the algorithmic recommendations that, for several years, have invaded the news feed and eclipsed the content of friends and family. To the point of driving away some users or, at the very least, encouraging them to stop posting. “Over time, the platform has evolved to meet new needs by developing features like groups, videos and the Marketplace, which has relegated the relational aspect to the background,” admits Facebook, which insists: “Social networks must remain social.”

At the traditional investor conference in January 2025, Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged that Facebook may have lost its way over time, focusing on monetization. And that there were “many opportunities to strengthen its cultural influence, well beyond its current impact,” as reported by The Verge. A finding that, according to him, should influence the direction of product development. “I think some of these developments will be reminiscent of how Facebook was used in its early days,” he warned.

The “Friends” feed is first deployed in the United States and Canada

This news feed, completely disconnected from the algorithm, which risks seducing those nostalgic for an era where pokes, Farmville and shameful statuses were overused, is initially deployed in Canada and the United States, specifies the platform. It will be accessible via the Friends tab, located in the navigation bar of the application, which was “previously dedicated to both contact suggestions and friend requests”. From now on, it will display all the content shared by your friends, from Reels to Stories and static publications.

Additionally, it will also be possible to pin it, by doing the following:

  • Click on your profile picture,
  • Choose Settings and Privacy,
  • Select Settings,
  • Tap Tab Bar, then Customize Bar,
  • In the Friends drop-down menu, click Pin.

The date of deployment in France has not been communicated.
